Tesamorelin is a synthetic analog of growth hormone–releasing hormone (GHRH) designed to interact with the GHRH receptor and support research into endocrine and metabolic signaling pathways. Structurally derived from the endogenous GHRH sequence, it is widely studied in preclinical and translational models examining growth hormone axis regulation, receptor-mediated signaling, and peptide-hormone communication.

A growth hormone releasing factor analogue approved by the FDA in 2010 for a narrow indication in HIV-associated lipodystrophy, set out in detail in regulatory review documents. That approval applies to the licensed pharmaceutical product, not to research material such as this vial.

The compound is described as a synthetic growth hormone releasing hormone analogue with major effects on glucose and lipid metabolism. A drug-induced liver injury monograph records that it has not been linked to elevations of serum aminotransferases during therapy, nor to instances of clinically apparent acute liver injury.

The phase III programme was conducted before integrase inhibitors became a mainstay of antiretroviral therapy. A randomised double-blind trial of 61 people with HIV and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease was used to evaluate the peptide against identical placebo among participants on integrase inhibitor regimens at baseline, with visceral fat cross-sectional area, hepatic fat fraction and trunk-to-appendicular fat ratio measured by magnetic resonance imaging, proton spectroscopy and dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry.
Tesamorelin holds an FDA approval, and it is narrow: excess visceral adipose tissue in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy. It does not extend to body composition or performance use, and a 2026 review of peptides marketed direct to patients treats regulatory status and marketed use as separate questions.
