The peptide is an analogue of tuftsin, a tetrapeptide reviewed extensively for immunomodulatory activity. Reviews of tuftsin and its derivatives set out the structural family the compound belongs to and the range of activities attributed to its analogues.

In rat frontal cortex, expression of 84 genes involved in neurotransmission was measured one and three hours after administration of the peptide or GABA. Significant changes were found in 45 genes at one hour and 22 at three hours, with correlation between the two treatments. A parallel study in IMR-32 neuroblastoma culture compared the peptide with GABA and olanzapine on the same gene panel.

A separate study followed the temporal dynamics of inflammation-related gene expression under the peptide, and behavioural work in rats reported attenuation of aversive signs in a naloxone-precipitated morphine withdrawal model, with the peptide compared against diazepam.
